about

Gastromantic is the second album of Mondongo, the instrumental project of drummer André Michel Arraiz-Rivas. It takes its name from the homonymous South American soup made with tripe, roots and pig's foot. The music is a mix of vigorous ingredients: an overlapping of melodies that play with each other as in a baroque counterpoint, courted by rhythms infused with break beats, soul and rock. Everything is served wrapped in an improvised albumen. The result is a strong flavor, even rustic, but which hides an infinity of nuances to be discovered as the mind and heart absorb the sound broth. The compositions are inspired by different musical ambitions, including the minimalist music of some contemporary composers such as Philip Glass and Arthur Russel, the rap music of producers such as J Dilla and Madlib, the techno music of artists such as Riccardo Villalobos, and other soloists and groups music that cross the border of jazz / hip hop / post rock such as AlasNoAxis by Jim Black, Karriem Riggins and Steve Coleman.
